THE GYM X PROJECT
Now that its common knowledge that The Press Gym is for sale it presents a challenge for us in Minnesota. Dan Stock who owns The Press Gym has given us the finest in Power Gyms we can ask for, and has done so much for USA Powerlifting that I say without a doubt he plays a big part in our success. From hosting events, sponsoring our lifters and giving us a giant power room it has been 2nd to none.
But Dan like many gym owners like him are finding the market for running such gyms are extremely challenging. From dealing with the major health club chains, to the snap fitness type gyms it has been an over saturation for the gym business. Unfortunately Powerlifters alone can not pay the bills for owners like Dan, so that is what pushed him to selling his facility. Plus Dan will be focusing on his revived and thriving Zubaz clothing brand.
So what does that mean for Powerlifters? Power Gyms have been the life blood for our sport since its creation. Without them I am not sure of the future, but with that being said I want to present you a project that I have been asked to do some research on. The project is called 'The Gym X project'
Now what the hell is that exactly? The Gym X project is a gym that is going to cater to strength athletes only. I am working with some investors on creating a new facility if The Press Gym closes or is sold to a un-Powerlifter friendly owner.
The first step in this possible gym is a marketing survey. The investors wanted to gauge the interest level of having such a gym. The tentative plan on how The Gym X will be equipped is this.
- Power Platforms for deadlifting and Olympic lifting
- Pin Squat racks for easy adjustment
- Forza benches (or similar quality benches)
- Dumbbells
- Stones and other Strongman training gear
- Quality bars
- Enough space to run Powerlifting events
- 24X7 Access
- Limited card key membership
