MN USAPL NEWS
Minnesota was once again at Men's Nationals, and once again we brought home the Gold, more then any other state.
Men's Nationals brought many records, and some close fights between many. We have Maliek Derstine and Knute taking National and American records in the 75 kilo Jr class. Knute who had a close call having to take 3 attempts to get a squat in, ending up with a record 295 kilo squat. Maliek had a smoother ride to his records in the bench ending up with a 220 kilo National and American record bench. In the end Knute Douglas took a run to overtake Maliek, but was short by just 2.5 kilos in the end with 282.5 and 280 kilo totals. One hell of a fight.
Teen Charles McDonald touching records in all lifts all day long takes the 75 kilo 15 year old class and wining in the process.
Minnesota had a great showing with 3 members of Jackals Gym taking the title in 3 different weight classes. Nick Tylutki in the 100 kilo class with a 910 kilo total. Jon Krogman in the 110 kilo class with a 927 kilo total. And Brad Gillingham with a 1005 kilo total, with a great attempt at the world masters deadlift record of 400 kilos.
One impressive showing in the supers we should note is Blaine Sumner. As we noted he could be the next greatest raw lifter. He also could be the next greatest geared lifter as well. At 22, he found himself 50 kilos behind the multi world champ Brad Gilingham. An unreal feat at such a young age.
