Mami Florida April 10th 2004 NAPF championships
USA Powerlifting hosted its now annual event called the North Americans this past weekend in Miami Florida. This event hosts lifters from Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico and the United States. The USA teams came out on top and Minnesota played a part in making it all happen. Minnesota had Peter Wong, Nick Tylutki, Angela Simons, Brad Gillingham lifting. In the lighter weight classes Peter Wong started it out for us. Peter was on fire, going 8/9 with PR's in the bench, deadlift and total, He also broke the American Record in the bench twice resulting in the gold medal for the bench.
Nick Tylutki narrowly missed a PR squat of 793, hit a PR bench of 462 and came up short on a 744 pull that was for a PR total. He finished with 766, 462, 727, 1957. Nick weighed in at the 220 weight class. I am willing to bet we will see a 2k total out of him very soon.
Brad led the winning team with a 7/9 2271 and the highest wilks at 573 winning the Champion of Champions for the Men. He set 319 American records in the squat (859) and total. He tore a hamstring on a final pull of 859 that would have given him a PR DL, a PR total, and American records in both as well. His squat was very easy and he bounced back in the bench from a missed opener. If the hamstring isn't too bad, Brad will hit PR's across the board in July.
